On Tour Update – Table Rock & Lake Norman

I just finished back to back tournaments on Table Rock Lake in Branson, MO and Lake Norman in Cornelius, NC.  The FLW event on Table Rock didn’t go well as I finished a disappointing 115th, so I was glad to get on the road and head straight to Lake Norman for the BASS Southern Open event. I tried to drive non-stop from Table Rock to Lake Norman, but I started dozing off around 1 a.m.  I found what looked like a safe business center parking lot somewhere in Kentucky (it was next to a fire station) and parked my rig for the night.  I took advantage of the heat wave rolling through the southeast and slept on the deck of my boat.  I was able to get five hours of sleep before getting back on the road.

I arrived at Lake Norman Sunday evening which meant I had two and a half days of practice before the event.  With limited practice time I decided to stay on the lower end of the lake and concentrate on Davidson Creek.  I stayed on the trolling motor hard looking for bedding fish.  Fortunately, I was able to find a few big fish and was able to catch them on day one of the tournament.  I weighed in a limit for 15lbs 7oz on day one and sat in 2nd place.   Day two I struggled to find any bed fish and had to skip docks to make sure I caught a limit.  Day three was tough as well, so I skipped docks again to make sure I came in with a limit.  I finished in 7th place and was pleased to have a good tournament following Table Rock.

I skipped a Green Pumpkin Yamamoto Senko rigged wacky style to catch my dock fish and pitched a Morning Dawn Roboworm on a drop shot rig to the bedding fish.

I’m looking forward to the next event on Beaver Lake in Rogers, AR which starts on April 26th.

See ya on the water,
