Joel Lesier single-handedly claims inaugural Coors Light “Silver Bullet” Delta Championship

The 2014 Coors Light “Silver Bullet” Big Fish Trophy

BETHEL ISLAND, Ca. – The inaugural Coors Light – Silver Bullet – Delta Open Teams championship is in the books and was truly an event to remember.

Seventy-five teams, in a limited field, converged on Sugar Barge RV Resort & Marina to compete for the top prize of a new Jeep Patriot, cash, along with the opportunity of becoming the champions of an event sponsored by a multi-national corporation, and it was evident by the energy and excitement that filled the room at the event’s pre-event check-in meeting, that something special was getting ready to take place on the California delta.

Sugar Barge RV Resort & Marina was an outstanding host and venue, as well as a pleasant surprise to many of the teams that had never visited the beautiful resort, nor sampled the many comforts this iconic delta destination could provide.

Millpond conditions prevailed in the morning, followed by a stiff mid-day breeze that lasted throughout the weigh-in portion of the event, both of which seemed to challenge and bring out the best in this field of “delta bred” anglers, who qualified for the event via of three Angler’s Press events held in 2013 – the Yamamoto Big Bass Challenge, Snag Proof Open, River2Sea Open, and FPT events.

Odds-on favorites Jason Austin and Ken Mah brought an impressive bag to the scales on day-one weighing 25.75 pounds taking the lead, but the team of Jennings and Deserve, followed them with a 10.34 pound “kicker” witch supplemented their 21+ pound five-fish limit, making it known to everyone that nothing was settled, and setting the stage for a final day showdown.

Jarred Jenning’s 10.35 Big Fish netted him a cool $1,000!

Because the top ten leaders going into day two were a “who’s who” of outstanding delta anglers, it came as no surprise to anyone that perennial favorite Joel Lesier – who fishing alone, would take advantage of the “slow day” leaders Mah and Austin experienced, as he “rocked the scales” with a 25 pound five-fish limit of bass that propelled him to the top spot – and the win, in this prestigious inaugural event.

Joel’s final two-day weight of 43.52 pounds (caught on a combination of all three products), earned him the victory, and he was presented with the Coors Light Silver Bullet Championship trophy, along with the keys to a new Jeep Patriot, courtesy of Cabral Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/RAM of Manteca.

What an exciting event!

We would like to thank all of the anglers that participated, members of the outdoor media, as well as the general community who came out in good numbers to watch the weigh-in… and most importantly, the sponsors who made the event possible.

The road to next year’s Coors Light Delta Championship began in early May with the Yamamoto Big Bass Open, as twenty-five berths reserved for the 2015 Coors Light Championship event have already been filled by that event’s top twenty-five overall big fish winners.

The next opportunity to qualify for the 2015 Coors Light Championship event – will be via the upcoming Snag Proof Open, which will be held August 2 & 3rd, on the California delta, where only the top 25 teams from the Pro division and top 15 teams from the AM division will be qualify for next year’s Championship event.

KEEP IN MIND… that participating in Delta Open Teams Series events, provide you with the UNPRECEDENTED opportunity to fish in events that draw big numbers, have low-cost entry fees –with no membership fees, feature high payout ratios, have no year-long tour/travel commitments to lakes out of state, AND give you the opportunity to compete in a limited-field TOC for a new vehicle.

And we are grateful to have national sponsors willing to support this series which helps us bring these events to you.

We look forward to seeing you all at the next two qualifying events!
