Category : BASS TOURNAMENT NEWS

TULSA, Okla. (November 19, 2013) – Jack Link’s Major League Fishing announced today that Shell Rotella®, makers of heavy-duty diesel engine oils, has become a primary league sponsor, including the title sponsor for the 2014 Shell Rotella Challenge Cup.

The Shell Rotella Challenge Cup will air on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader in Outdoor TV, beginning in March 2014. The Challenge Cup, the second of two Major League Fishing events filmed this year, features lakes around the Denton, Texas, area.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have an industry leader such as Shell Rotella as one of Major League Fishing’s primary sponsors as we move forward,” said league General Manager Jim Wilburn. “Their connection to hard-working people is a great fit for our organization.”

Major League Fishing is a partnership between Outdoor Channel and 24 of the world’s best anglers. The league features made-for-television bass fishing events and utilizes the most innovative format in competitive fishing.

“Major League Fishing is growing and growing,” Wilburn said. “One of the areas that signifies that growth is the diversity that we’re finding in our sponsorships. We are thrilled to welcome Shell Rotella to Major League Fishing, and at the same time we’re confident that Shell Rotella is going to be pleased with what we have to offer through our growing fan base.”

Major League Fishing recently filmed two events. The first, the General Tire Summit Cup, will air at least six times per week during the first quarter of 2014 on Outdoor Channel. The Summit Cup was filmed on lakes around Alpena, Michigan. The second event, The Shell Rotella Challenge Cup, was filmed in October.

“The Shell Rotella brand is excited to partner with Major League Fishing and to support its continued growth,” said Chris Guerrero, global brand manager, Shell Rotella. “Major League Fishing has captured the attention of the entire fishing community and we are pleased to be a part of a sport that has such great appeal to people who work hard and play hard.”

Major League Fishing’s made-for-television events utilize a format that allows anglers to weigh all the score-able bass that they catch. The bass are immediately weighed after they are caught then released back into the water. Anglers know where they rank in the standings at all times via real-time leader boards in their boats. The competitors are not allowed to practice before events.
