Guntersville Fishing Report March 20, 2012

Lake Guntersville is on fire right now.   There’s a lot of fish shallow right now and they’re not hard to find.  Just drop the trolling motor near the backs of bays and you’ll see fish cruising and bedding everywhere.    I’ve been catching most of my fish on a drop shot rig.  My favorite technique is to target cruising fish.   I’ll lead a cruising fish by five or six feet with my cast making sure to make a quiet entry with my drop shot rig.  If the cast is accurate and subtle there’s a good chance they’ll eat it.  I’ve been throwing 6 inch Roboworms in Aaron’s magic and Oxblood on spinning gear with 6lb Berkley Trilene.   You may have a hard time throwing such light tackle on Gville, but it helps make for an accurate presentation, as well as, a good fight.   As always, please make sure to practice catch and release.   It’s especially important during the spawning season as a lot of big fish are shallow right now and are more susceptible to being caught.
