Powell Inferno Series

By Tyler Waller

banner-inferno-354x222Wow! The crew at Powell rods never ceases to amaze me! I have been lucky enough to be a pro-staff member for a couple of years now and I still can’t believe they can pack so much quality into their products for such a small price.

Over the past two years I have had the pleasure of using three of their rods and putting them through my torture test (fishing every weekend for forty weeks straight) and they continue to exceeded my expectations.

Keith Bryan, Master Rod Designer at Powell has added something new this year to his rods to sweeten the deal. He has switched from the Pacific Bay Minima guide set, which were stainless steel, to a Fuji aluminum oxide guide set. The Fuji guide set is the same guide set used on the new G-Loomis E6X and with the Inferno line having a price point of $129.99 MSRP, I’d consider that a major advantage. I am not saying that I dislike the minima sets I’m just simply stating the Fuji guides make the rod look and feel a lot nicer.

The three rods I own are all in the inferno series:

Inferno 703 CEF– If you want an all around casting rod, this is it! I’ve thrown spinnerbaits, small crank baits, and have even used it for finesse techniques with heavier weights and it has performed excellent.

Inferno 734 CF – What can I say about this rod that does it justice? This is hands-down my favorite rod that I own in the Powell Inferno line. It is phenomenal! The rod has all the solid backbone that you can possible want for a flipping rod but has the versatility in the action that you can also throw top water baits and heavier stuff too!

Inferno 702 MLEF – This rod is great for finesse fishing for stubborn bass. It has great sensitivity and a very forgiving tip action that will allow you to get the most action out of you shaky heads and fluke style baits.
