In a Bass fisherman’s lifetime, they may never catch a 10Lb Bass, for that matter most professional Bass fisherman won’t either. How about someone credited for catching over 800 Double Digit bass in a lifetime? Doug Hannon known as the Bass Professor died an untimely death in 2013 he was 66 and could have easily hit the 1000 mark. A legend in Fl, Doug was on the cover of Bassmaster Magazine twice in one year (1984) and is the only one ever to appear on the cover plus take a cover photo in March 1992 he also fished competitively on the Bassmaster’s Tour but his passion was designing lures, innovative reels, and guide systems. The WaveSpin reel with its serrated spool was the key feature of the WaveSpin reel which allowed less surface contact on your line leaving the spool for a longer cast. As time went on it was the new MicroWave Guide System dealing primarily with the number one guide on every spinning rod that would be his defining moment.
Recently I had a conversation with Russ Riley about getting a WaveSpin reel replaced that I had sat on he said sorry but that they had refocused on the Guide System. So we decided to do a review of two identical rods….one with conventional spinning guides and one with the MicroWave Guide System. Both rods arrived; I bought identical reels and loaded them with the same 8 lb Fluro to keep everything on an even playing field. The test was on, after a head to head comparison with the same baits the MicroWave Guide System was hands down the best on a few important fronts. Number one was casting distance…..the whole theory is when the line comes off the spool in big loops and hits the first MicroWave Guide and gets reduced into smaller loops thus allowing the line to travel faster for a longer cast with less effort. I actually had to retrain my cast and use more wrist than arm motion because I kept overshooting with the MicroWave guide rod. Another noticeable difference was it made fishing with fluorocarbon line much more manageable which everyone knows is a big issue with spinning reels.
Doug Hannon left us way too soon and as Russ Riley said: “All Doug ever wanted to do was design quality and innovative products making anglers’ times on the water enjoyable and problem-free for pure relaxing fishing pleasure,”. On a side note the MicroWave Guides are the only product to ever win at ICAST (U.S.), EFTTEX (Europe), and CHINA FISH (Asia) the TRIPLE CROWN! A large number of rod manufacturers have and are adapting the guides to their spinning rods.
Give the MicroWave Guides a try, It’s all in the Science no fiction involved.
CHomp On, Thanks!
